The regularly scheduled March 21, 2017 meeting of the Westwood Community Council has been cancelled. The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place May 16, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Belmont Village Westwood. Jim Brooks, President of Topa Management Company, will be joining us for an in-depth discussion on Westwood Village issues.
Topa, as you may know, is the largest commercial landlord in Westwood Village and has been responsible for bringing many of the most exciting and highest quality retail, restaurant, and professional services tenants to the Village. These include: Sur La Table, Paper Source, Urban Outfitters, Francesca’s, the new MAC cosmetics (now under construction), KazuNori, 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, Sweetfin Poke, TLT Food, Native Foods, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, and more. Other Topa tenants include: Victoria’s Secret, American Apparel, T-Mobile, Citibank, European Wax Center, The Tanning Boutique, Corner Bakery, Headlines Diner & Press Club, Iso Asian Fusion, UCLA Extension, and the Westwood Village Synagogue, among others.
As Topa President, Jim championed and oversaw the sweeping $1.5 million historic restoration of the 1930 Shepard Mitchell Building, now called the Kinross Cornerstone, at the corner of Gayley & Kinross. This beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival structure, originally designed by Master Architect Stiles O. Clements (who also designed the Geffen Playhouse/Masonic Affiliate Clubhouse building on Le Conte, among many other landmark structures throughout Los Angeles), was restored under the guiding hand of Nadel Architects. Topa and Nadel will be honored on May 3rd by the Los Angeles Conservancy with a prestigious Historic Preservation Award for 2017.
Please mark you calendars now and plan to join us.
