Westwood Community Council Members and other Westwood Friends:
This is a reminder that our next WCC meeting will be held on –
Tuesday, November 19th
Belmont Village Westwood
Town Hall community room (first floor)
10475 Wilshire Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90024
Our agenda is attached below.
This is our LAST scheduled meeting of 2019 (and for this decade!), and it promises to be very informative.
UCLA’s activities are our topic and we have two special guests to address our issues.
First we will introduce and have a lively conversation with Jennifer Poulakidas, UCLA’s new Associate Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations. In this key position Jennifer oversees all of UCLA’s governmental relations — at the Federal, State, County, Metro, and City levels. She is also is responsible for directing and overseeing UCLA’s community relations, including with our local Westwood community. (Jennifer follows Keith Parker in this role.)
Jennifer was appointed to this very important position earlier this year, following a nationwide search.
Additionally, we are very happy to welcome back one of UCLA’s most influential campus administrators who has addressed our Westwood Community Council on two previous occasions — UCLA Administrative Vice Chancellor Michael Beck.
Vice Chancellor Beck has wide ranging duties at UCLA including including directly managing an annual operating budget of $900 million, 5,200 employees, and eleven major campus departments (including Financial Services, Student Housing and Hospitality Services, Transportation and Events, UCLA Police Department, Facilities Management, Campus Human Resources, Information Technology, Environmental Health & Safety, Central Ticket Office, and more).
Additionally, Michael and his wife are Westwood neighbors who reside in the Westwood Homeowners Association area. He also served as a Board member and Vice President of the Westwood Business Improvement District. Living in Westwood, Michael sees much of what we see on a day to day basis in the Village and greater Westwood.
With so many significant UCLA construction projects underway, other developments in the pipeline that will affect both Westwood and UCLA, as well as significant recent property acquisitions by UCLA (Gayley Center, Oxy Building, 924 Westwood, among them), many WCC members have been asking numerous UCLA-related questions. This will be an opportunity to hear directly from one of UCLA’s highest ranking administrators about what our “neighbor to the north” is doing, and to get your questions answered.
